Marketing Like a Marathon Runner

May 22, 2009

Ever wonder how a long distance runner keeps going?

Its quite simple actually... They never reach their destination.

Amateur runners generally struggle with running distances until they figure out the secret that experienced runners have learned and implement.

An experienced runner finds something in the distance and focuses their eyes on that object.  As they approach the object, the runner will then redirect their focus to a new, distant object.  Again, they never reach their destination, because their destination keeps getting pushed further than where they currently are. They keep setting new goals and strive for those goals.

Also, notice, the runner's eyes are fixed on that distant object.  If the runner's eyes begin to wander and look at things around them, the runner easily gets distracted and the strides become smaller while the pace becomes sluggish.  Keeping your eyes on your goals will enable you to take the largest strides and keep the fastest, most-steady pace.

Finally, once the runner has reached their goal, the race is over.  If you consider yourself to have reached your goal, then your race, too, is over and your are no longer running. Are you ready for your race to be finished?
